President-elect Trump Will Not End the World

It sounds hard to believe, but there are no signs of apocalypse via politics in the near future.

President-elect Trump Will Not End the World

I have an announcement. News so shocking, some may not believe me. My proclamation? The election that has everyone worried, will not actually result in an apocalypse. That's right, the world isn't going to end because Donald Trump is our President-elect. Now, I understand this news is a little delayed, but I also know some of you still have not come to terms with this quite yet.

Regardless of whether you voted for Trump or Clinton, or maybe even Gary Johsnon or Jill Stein, there is something that needs to be said and another that needs to be done. The first is that, just because your choice of candidate may not have been elected, does not make the United States any more or less of a country. Second, we need to stop treating this election as if it were the breaking point of democracy and all hell will break loose because one person won and the other didn't.

Our nation has been through a lot worse than an unexpected election. We've seen (and survived) a Revolution, a Civil War,two World Wars, impeached presidents, a Great Depression, a Great Recession, the Civil Rights Movement and plenty of other memorable events that threatened the White House and government much more than one election ever has. Not to mention that, but also the fact President-Elect Trump won the Electoral College, so he obviously has more support than we give him credit for.

The United States of America is known as one of the most, if not the most, powerful country on earth. One president can not shake a foundation that has been built on 200 years of solitude, and frankly, we have been through a lot worse than a president known to speak his mind, offensive or not. A nation lasting this long, being this powerful and this strong, can not be torn down by one vote made by the people who live here. Whether our President-elect is Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, does not change any of these facts.

I know many of you have threatened to flee the country to find solitude that you cannot find in Trump Tower. Others have taken action through protests, and still, others have simply complained via social media. Whichever method you chose, let me assure you none of them will change the results of this election. All we can do now is make a change from the ground up. Ghandi said it best, "be the change you wish to see in the world." The 319 million people living in the United States have more power than one president will ever have, so utilize that power.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
