This election has been rough all around. There's been a lot of hatred spewed by both sides and a lot of misinformation spread. There's protests now, which many have taken to calling ridiculous among other things. They claim there wasn't protests for other protests and that people should just accept the results while President-elect Trump calls for unity.
Before I continue, it's necessary to remind people that there was in fact protests when President Obama was elected. There was plenty of protests then, and Trump called for them as well. There is always a backlash after an election, especially one where the person who is called the victor didn't gain the popular vote.
I want see our country remain united, but Trump did spew a lot of hate personally during the election cycle. The people that this riled up can be dangerous to a lot of others, and his election validates them.
This is why people protest.
They do not want to see someone who currently has the electoral vote as president calling a whole race of people rapists, criminals, and drug dealers, made degrading marks about women whether it was 'locker room talk' or not, wants to ban all Muslims, has a vice president who is homophobic, and promoted hate against anyone who is not a white, straight, cisgender, Christian man.
While I hope he speaks truthfully when he says he wants a unified country, this is a good reason for people to be scared. They aren't crybabies or over sensitive, they're concerned.
This sort of rhetoric has validated people who feel this way across the country, and those are the people that many are worried about. It's not all Trump supporters or all conservatives that feel this way. It's the people that do that have many worried.
Trump was supported by the KKK after all, and that is a scary thought to many people.
This isn't all Trump supporters by any means, but it was enough that people across the country have every right to be worried about their futures. This is why people are protesting the streets. This is why people say #notmypresident.
People are not being crybabies when they say they are concerned what the future of America holds.
I hope as much as the next person that it holds peace for all that are in and come to this country, but I won't stand for hatred. There has been enough of that in this election. The Trump supporters that aren't part of this group full of hate, it is time for you stand with those that are scared and remind them that you care.
