The east coast has been quite warm for the winter. The lack of snow and warm 70 degree days have not made it seem any more like winter. I like each season for different reasons, I don't like the cold as much as I like the heat. Bundling up and feeling like an Eskimo, is not my forte. The layers and layers of clothes make me feel like the Michelin Man. The weather forecasters are predicting a lot of snow to hit the east coast this coming week. The mid-Atlantic is not new to snow storms in March, but we still don't like them regardless.
The first thing you should do in preparing for a storm is making sure you have the basics, food, water, flashlight, extra batteries. I would say candles, but many college dorms do not allow them. So try to avoid them. Buying bottled water is always a great option to make sure you stay hydrated if the power were to go out.
Make sure to buy or bring extra blankets and dressing in layers. This is important for your body to maintain a healthy body temperature. It is also important to keep your extremities warm (such as hands, feet, and your head) because your body releases so much heat through those certain body parts.
If you are on a college campus, you will most likely have access to your meal plan, but in case the weather is so bad you can't leave your dorm, make sure you have some snacks and room temperature foods you can eat, without having to use a microwave or anything using electricity.
If a big storm is coming don't rely on wifi or the internet to entertain you. If the power goes out, you are screwed. Have some board games, card games, books or even you text book for class to read while the power is out. But also make sure to charge all your devices before the storm hits. If there is an emergency you still need your phone to make a call. And kids, you can write a paper on a Word document without wifi, so knock out that paper that is due on Wednesday.
So be prepared for the winter weather that may hit! And if we are lucky, classes might be canceled!!
