It’s that time of year again. The school year is right around the corner. Every time you venture into Target for your weekly spending binges, you are bombarded with back-to-school images. For most people, going back to college brings giddy feelings. However, for a select group of people who are about to embark on their last year, things are a little bit different.
1. At first, you refuse to admit it to yourself.
You still feel like a 12-year-old, how can you be a functioning adult? When people ask you what year you’ll be starting in the fall, you start by saying you’re a junior. People who know the truth look at you a little funny when you choose not to correct yourself. It’s a process, ok?
2. By the time August rolls around, you finally come to terms with the fact that you’re about to start your last year of college.
Now when people ask you about school, you get a little melancholy and start to reminisce about all the memories. People may or may not start tuning you out when you start talking about that “one epic night freshman year.”
3. When it gets close enough to school to start packing, you roll your eyes.
You hate packing and you will not do it. Why would you want to start sorting through your clothes and boxing up your life? In the back of your mind, you think that avoiding packing will delay the inevitable. It’s such a hassle, and your mom does a better job anyway.
4. Since school is only a few weeks out, your housemates' group text starts to blow up.
Not only are you planning your first night out already, but you are also making a to-do list for the year. You realize how excited you are to roll back into your college town and run it. Your fear and anxiety are shrinking rapidly.
5. You settle into your house and give your roommates the most epic hug of you lives.
You have no idea why you were so upset about being a senior two weeks ago. You are ready to get this year started, including your big first night out. You may be a senior, but you are confident that this will be your best year yet.
