Gazette Review

We are less than a month away until spring starts which means that you have already bought your tickets for the upcoming festivals and you can't wait to go through the entrance and start moving your happy feet. Huge festivals such as Coachella, EDC, Ultra Music Festival and others will mostly be held in spring and in the summer. With your excitement of the upcoming festivities here are some suggestions to get you prepared for the hot and sunny weather with great music.

1. Stay Hydrated

One thing I can't stress enough is that water will always be your best friend. It is probably the most important thing to have with you especially under the hot sun. The good thing is that some festivals actually give you water for free and they can fill up any bottle that you bring. The best thing to have with you is a camelbak, which can carry your belongings along with a two liter water pouch.

2. Plan Ahead

You won't be the only one that wants to see their favorite artist on stage so its highly suggested that you print out a copy of the set times for each day. The reason is because sometimes your two favorite artists might start at the same time so there may be a possibility that you will have to flip a coin to choose.

3. Comfy Shoes

These are not one stage concerts. These are festivals with multiple stages which means you will be walking around a lot. Try to wear the right shoes. Flats will ruin your feet to the point when you don't feel like dancing anymore. Walking and resting sometimes won't solve the solution of your aching feet.

4. Front Row Doesn't Matter

I remember the first festival my friend and I tried to force our way to the front. Probably a bad idea because we could barely move our arms and the heat started to build up from the body temperature. But as we ended up going to the back with more space, it felt more comfortable for us. If you are trying to look at your favorite artists up close, it will almost be impossible and irritating. If you are willing to hold your urine for a two hour set go for it, but once you get out there is no going back in. I suggest going to the back because of the amount of space you will have and besides, the music is loud enough for you to hear.

5. Ear Plugs

Caution. There will be loud music with incredible bass so if you have sensitive ears, I would highly advise you to bring ear plugs. The closer you are to a speaker, the higher the possibility you may go deaf.

6. Sun Screen

Other than having water as your main resource, sun screen is also a must. The fact that you will be under high degree weather, sun screen should be applied before entering the fun.

7. Have Fun

Most importantly, have fun. Go out there and meet new people with love and respect. These festivals are a great get away from reality so make sure you live it to the fullest and have no regrets.

Enjoy and stay safe ravers.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
