10 Ways To Prepare Yourself For Penn State's Confusing Winter Weather

Penn State's weather is never what you think it'll be. The morning could start out not too cold and then by the time you leave your first class there could be freezing rain or worse...hail. Here are 10 tips on how to prepare yourself:

1. Always bring an umbrella.

As someone who has suffered through this, you never know when rain will strike. And if you're not in proper clothes and shoes...you will face the consequences. Not to mention, most of us don't have waterproof backpacks.

2. Layer.

It can be freezing in the morning and then warm up a bit layer. Dress so that you're able to take your coat off and still be fine to walk home if you need to.

3. If the forecast says rain, wear a rain jacket.

This is not the season for fashion over function, I promise you. No one wants a wet parka....

4. Boots are a must.

If you don't have them, buy them. Rain boots AND snow boots are both necessary because, I assure you, PSU will not be canceling class and the loop will be overbearingly crowded. Be ready to walk on ice.

5. Waterproof for the win.

Whether it's your backpack or your shoes, you can't go wrong with choosing waterproof. Protect your stuff! You'll be happy later when your notebooks aren't ruined and your laptop is safe.

6. Check your weather app every morning.

Because ya never know! Don't just listen through the grape vine or go for the "is it cold?" text.

7. Mission SAVE THE ANKLES.

Vans and cropped jeans? Cropped leggings and sneakers?

Probably not your best option.

8. Your coffee tumbler matters.

Coffee on the go every morning? Make sure you have a tumbler that closes completely! You definitely don't want to be stuck with ~soggy~ coffee...as stupid as that may sound.

9. Watch where you're walking.

The ice comes fast, and it's good at hiding. Don't speed walk-- you'll fall...hard.

10. Prepare. For. Anything.

At the end of the day, anything can happen. Prepare for the worst.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
