So, that girl that claims she is a Christian now has a baby bump. A vast majority of us now have the first response of, “Oh my stars, she had premarital sex?! I thought she was a Christian. How dare she?” The hypocrisy we have while saying these statements is literally hysterical. Can we please stop condemning this girl!?!
I think that people often forget one of the most well known verses when judging the pregnant teenager or young adult. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” So yes, that girl has sinned and now has to deal with the repercussions of that sin, but she is no different than you sinning by speaking negatively against her and gossiping. Often times we are quick to condemn these people that are living in sin, which could be anything from the girl pregnant from having premarital sex to the guy that struggles with homosexuality, and we often compare ourselves to these individuals. “Well, I’m not that bad of a Christian because at least I’m not living like they are.” No! Don’t justify your wrongs by theirs. Sin is sin. In James 2:10 it says, “For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.” We are equally sinners in need of God’s grace and forgiveness.
You know that one verse that everybody seems to know? Yeah, you know it, John 3:16. Well, take a look at the next verse. John 3:17 says, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” Christ did not come to condemn all the people that were living in sin, He came to rescue them. So, don’t you think if we are to be like Christ, then we shouldn’t be condemning these people either and should be showing them the love of Jesus?
I know that’s hard to do when some people’s sins are easier to see than yours, but they need Jesus just like you do. If they already have Jesus in their heart and they are facing the consequences of sins they have made, do you know what they need? Prayer and encouragement. She knows what she did was wrong and she may have already repented over it, but that doesn’t change the fact that she is now pregnant. God has forgiven her and now you need to also. Matthew 6: 14-15 says, “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
