I Will Always Prefer Reading Books Instead Of Watching Movies

If you disagree, you're wrong!

Nothing makes me cringe more than hearing someone say, "Why would I read the book when I can just watch the movie?" No offense to all you movie people out there, but there are so many reasons why reading is SO much better than watching something on a screen.

First of all, watching a movie instead of reading the book is just lazy.

Opting out of reading a book just because there is a corresponding movie involves no imagination or creation of characters or settings in your mind because everything is just given to you. Authors have the ability to leave things up to their reader's interpretation, which is not as easily done in a movie production that offers a concrete visual. Two people could picture things completely differently while reading the same book, giving it a more personal feel and allowing readers a greater ability to connect with the characters and the story as a whole.

Books include so much more depth and detail.

If you've ever seen a movie that is based on a book, it is very likely that many details are left out in the film due simply to time constraints. Books contain so much more detail and complexity, giving the story more meaning. Take The Twilight Saga for example. In the book, Bella actually has a personality, which is completely omitted in the movies! (Sorry Kristin Stewart).

I attribute my academic successes to my love for reading.

I've been a book worm ever since I was a little girl and I truly believe that it has made me a better writer, has given me a better- rounded vocabulary and has made me into a natural when it came to English-based classes and literary analysis. There are so many benefits that come along with reading.

Reading a book is a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

There is nothing better than curling up in bed or by the fireplace in the comfort of your home and indulging in a great book. Reading is also one of the best things to do on vacation while soaking up some sun on the beach. Rainy day? Catch me snuggled up by the window reading my favorite book for the seventeenth time. There is also nothing more satisfying than turning the last page of a great book to its finish.

There is something truly magical about the power of words on paper, and the takeaway as readers.

The expression of thought through writing is a beautiful thing that can take many forms and have a powerful influence. It is a line of direct communication between an author and their reader. Reading a book is truly an experience that can completely take you to another place, something that I find very therapeutic. All I have to say to people who don't give reading a chance because they "just don't like it" or "don't have time" is, you're missing out!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
