Praying For My Husband

Why you should have an intentional relationship before it even starts.

Praying For My Husband

I don’t have a boyfriend and don’t foresee myself having one any time soon, yet I still pray for my husband every single day. I have no clue who I’m going to marry, where he’s from, what he looks like, or what his story is, but I still pray for him. Many people are surprised when they find out that I do this. People often wonder how on earth I could be praying for someone when I don’t even know whom I’m praying for. But what they don’t realize is that I know exactly who I’m praying for.

Even though I don’t know his name, I know that I am praying for my lifetime companion, the father of my children, and the one who will walk through all of the good and bad times with me. I’m praying for the one who will be faithful to me, love me endlessly, and will be a role model to our children for how to lead a Christian family. I know that I am praying for the man that God has planned for me and I hope that Christ is working in his life, just as He is working in mine.

I pray that God is shaping and molding my husband to be a man of Christ. I pray that God is allowing my husband to have experiences that will teach him how to handle adversity, grow in his faith, and give him the ability to constantly point me to Christ. I pray that my husband will be someone who complements me and fills in my gaps, but doesn’t complete me. I pray that my husband is learning that the only way we can be complete together is with Christ at the center of our relationship. I pray that whether my husband is having a good or bad day, he knows that someone is thinking of him. I pray that my husband’s rock is Our Lord and that he constantly leans on Him. And most importantly, I pray that my husband and I will share a deep, mature kind of love that is more than just lust or infatuation.

I pray for him, because I can’t wait until I get to meet him. I do this because at some time in my life I will get to be devoted to one, single person for the rest of forever. I will join this person in the most holy of unions and I will get to journey through life with him by my side. It is never too early to start praying for your husband and laying a foundation for your relationship. Being intentional can start today, before you even know who your lifetime companion is going to be. I know that my marriage will be focused on Christ, because I have prayed for that for years. When I walk down the aisle, I know that my love for that man will be more than I can ever imagine, because I have been praying specifically for that person for so many years. I know that God is faithful to our requests, He provides, and He already knows whom I will serve Him with in my life. When the day comes that I finally get to know who that person is, I know that he will be exactly who God has planned for me—and, wow, I cannot wait for that day.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
