A Prayer For The Upcoming School Year

Dear God,

I thank you so much for the great summer vacation that you gave me. From all the new opportunities, adventures, and people that I met throughout this time. I could not have imagined a better three months. Thank you for the long nights and the early mornings, the trips and the camps, and the days when I didn't wake up until noon. Those were personally my favorite.

This week begins another chapter that You have granted me. I feel so blessed that I am able to attend a school I love and learn from some of the best professors. I am also so so so relieved that I have a roof over my head and a new job that I love. I am thankful for the fact that I am surrounded by kind-hearted people who love me and support me, and are always there to catch me when I fall. They also hold me accountable and lift me up with Your words and promises when I fail to remember them on my own. I am excited to start this new journey and continue down the path you have designed for me.

God, I pray that this year becomes more about You and less about me. I pray that your glory, your will and your love is displayed through me. Let me be a vessel for your Word. I ask that you be with me on the easiest of days, and on the days when I seem hopeless and discouraged. Remind me that You are for me and never against me, and that You know the outcome of my decisions.

God, be with me while I lead events on campus, while I'm studying for my courses, and please calm my nerves on a test day because You know how crazy I can be. And, give those around me patience for the days when I'm high strung and in better words, a hot mess.

I pray for safe travels and experiences. I pray for good friendships and slow loves. I pray that I grow not only as a student, but as an adult and a servant of You. I ask that You show yourself to me daily in even the smallest of places. I pray that I can lead others to You and that I continue to follow You and You alone.

I thank you for the upcoming moments I will experience. I thank you for those that will come, and those that will go in my life. I trust that you have a plan bigger than what I will ever plan for myself, and in this, I can find peace with this upcoming semester.

I know that no matter what this semester throws at me, You will be with me every step of the way. Remind me to never give up or second guess Your plan. You are a good, good father and I am so excited to see how You change the hearts of myself and those around me.

Thank you again for what's ahead.

In your name I pray... Amen

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
