Practicing Self Love Starts By Noticing What You Have

Look at the mirror, and appreciate what God has given you.

You are alive today, with the sun shines brightly through the window and hear the sound of the wind swirling. You took a deep breath and waked yourself up. You get into your morning routines, getting ready and serve your breakfast on your own. You notice you still live with a roof over your head, have food to eat, and water to drink.

You still took your life for granted.

What you do instead, you see through your phone, getting accustomed to involuntarily checking your social media and emails. You are so attached to the world that is temporary and artificial.

You see through the post that girl just posted, wishing that you had a body like her. You would kill to be her. And then, you see a boy shared his accomplishment getting a 3.94/4.00 GPA on a math degree, and you wish to be him and have that kind of achievement in your life. You then, check your email, you wonder why do you have so much to do. You wake up, feeling miserable.

You contemplate again and again.

You think you can’t be that person, you start believing you can’t be “it.” You doubt yourself, you think that other people are better than you. Forgetting, you being alive should be encouraging enough for you to make today a better day.

Rather than whine of what you don’t have, work for your own future. It will work out with a perfect timing. Those people who are successful don’t get what they have and be where they are now just by luck or by the time they spend sleeping and lying around on their couch. They got where they are from the constant hard work and faith they put on their work.

The girl that is fit, work hard for that toned body, goes to the gym and eat right. She could not eat that ice cream from Baskin Robbins sometimes, it is sacrifices that she is willing to make. She sacrifices her time and money to go to the gym. The boy that got 3.94/4.00 GPA works 24/7 to get the grade he deserves, he spends his time mostly at the library. They stick it out to get what they have.

Even Ellon Musk was not successful in flying his SpaceX rocket until many trials, some burn and didn’t make it to mars but he didn’t give up.

You should look in the mirror and see. Tell yourself about what you like about yourself when you see in the mirror. It can be anything from the teeth that you just brush and feels clean, your hair that is easy to brush, your eyeliner that lined perfectly, your body scent that smells nice from the cologne you just wore and the lips that are moist after applying lip balm on them.

You can list all of the accomplishment you want to have in the future, but also, don’t forget to list all of the achievements you already have in life and be proud of that.

You are not as inadequate as you think, you are more than the negative thoughts you have. Keep moving forward and with faith you will reach the rest of the way.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
