Practicing Self-Love

February is the time to show yourself some love, too.

As we enter the month of February, it seems as if the whole world is infatuated with the idea of love. With an increase of marriage proposals, specials on flower deliveries, and heart decorations everywhere you turn, it's hard to ignore. How beautiful is it that a month known for its dreariness outside has been transformed into a celebration of the most important quality we posses as people? Although not all of us (cough, me) are currently in romantic relationships, now is the perfect time for everyone to practice a different kind of love: self-love.

A majority of people have become comfortable viewing themselves in a harsh and negative light. However, it is extremely difficult to live a life of positivity and love if you can't even show these qualities to yourself. This month, choose to break the cycle of denunciation and try these tips to begin practicing self-love.

1. Get Moving

Excercise feels GOOD. Not only will you boost your confidence, but you will grow stronger each day and amaze yourself with what your body is capable of. Find activities that bring you joy, like biking or yoga, and make it a habit. You will not regret taking time every day to move.

2. Stop the Trash Talk

Your parents taught you, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Why shouldn't this rule apply to yourself, as well? The next time a critical comment comes to mind, cut it short and replace it with something you love. Hair sticking up? It's still a great color. Bags under your eyes? You're such a hard worker. Not a fan of your legs? Those legs have carried you through every significant moment in your life. If you wouldn't say it to your close friend, you shouldn't be saying it to yourself.

3. Eat Those Veggies

Your body is literally a machine that needs fuel, so why would you ever fill it with garbage? Eat beautiful plants for energy, mental clarity, and physical health; each healthy meal you make is like a little love note to yourself.

4. Hit Snooze

Despite what society would like you to believe, getting enough sleep should be a priority in life. There is no homework assignment, work project, or Netflix binge that is more important than letting yourself recharge and renew for at least seven hours. You deserve to be well-rested and happy!

5. Love in Action

Generally, it doesn't take much to make a person feel loved. You know exactly what those little things are that bring you happiness in life, so why don't you do them more? For me, it is taking walks when the sun is shining and buying little plants. Imagine that you are someone you are trying to impress, and treat yourself well! Play your favorite songs, go to cute coffee shops, buy interesting books! It doesn't have to be expensive or crazy, just remind yourself that you are loved.

Whether you're married, dating, or single as a pringle this Valentine's Day, remember that it is always the right time to practice self-love. Not only will you feel better, but you will be capable of loving others more deeply, as well.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
