I honestly can't believe the holiday shopping season is already here. If you are anything like me when distant relatives and friends start asking what I want, I draw blanks and I draw them hard.

I never know what I need, and I usually ask my mom for all the things I'm really wanting, so that leaves everyone well in the dust.

Have no fear because, this year, I've come up with five things to save you this holiday season when you have just no idea what to tell Aunt Sue what you want.

1. A planner.

The holiday season means a new year is right around the corner. So, you need to get organized and back in the swing of things because, as the saying always goes, "New Year, New Me."

2. A good jacket.

Cold, wind, rain, and snow. We all need a good jacket to keep us warm and dry during the winter months. Honestly, a jacket is something you rarely want to actually spend your own money on, which makes it the best gift.

3. A giant water bottle.

Hydration is key in life, and a cute water bottle makes it that much better to drink. But again, water bottles can be expensive, especially for nice ones. So, it's the perfect gift when you've come to the end of things to ask for.

4. Coffee gift cards.

You are lying if you say you don't love coffee unless you are a tea drinker. I'll give you that. But it's something you are most likely going to buy anyway, so why not have someone else cover that expensive for a couple of days?

5. Food gift cards.

This goes along with number four, but seriously, who doesn't love food? Again, it's something you are going to spend money on anyway, so why not have lunch on a family member or friend in the new year?

So, hopefully, this helps you think of the perfect thing to throw on that pollyanna or tell your work best friend you want this holiday season. Something simple and easy that will end up saving you some of your own cash later. You're welcome!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
