"Happiness is a state of mind." I'm sure we all have heard this quote before at some point in our lives, but do we really take it into consideration? Our happiness is based on our own mindset and how we perceive life. Positive thinking is the key to our happiness and it is important to maintain no matter how tough life may get.
Life comes with challenges and hardships, some so unbearable we think it is almost impossible to reach a full level of happiness. However, with the right attitude, surroundings, and the people in our lives, it is almost impossible to be anything other than happy. People tend to live their lives thinking about what could happen instead of thinking about the present and focusing on what is happening in their lives at this very moment. Think about it, we are lucky. We are lucky to be surrounded by those who love us, we are lucky to have the opportunity to receive an education, and we are lucky to be given something as wonderful as life.
Now, I'm not going to pretend that there aren't things in life that make us upset or angry, but are they really worth the time? For example, receiving a bad grade on a test, not playing your best in a sport that you absolutely love and put so much time into, or getting into a disagreement with a family member or a friend. It's not worth the time. Bad grade? It happens to everyone. School can be tough but think of it as a sign of help. That bad grade can show you that you may need to put a little more effort in, but it sure is not the end of the world. Didn't play your best in that soccer game? Everyone has their off days. At least you are given the opportunity to do something that you love, and in the end, it is just a game. Did you get into a disagreement with a friend or family member? I'm sure we all can vouch for this one. In the end, they are always going to be there for you and it isn't worth the time and breath to argue about something so pointless. It is important to take a step back and realize that the little things in your attitude are adjustable and can benefit your own happiness, and also the happiness of those around you.
Overcoming obstacles is difficult, but how can you achieve them if you are using the words "can not." I "can not" do that. We all are guilty of using these words, but did you ever maybe think that you aren't giving yourself enough credit? "I can not get a good grade in that class." Think about it, are you utilizing your full potential? Staying optimistic will have you saying, "I can," and with the right attitude and strive, you will.
Staying positive is something that we all need to work on. No one is perfect and everyone has their moments of pessimism. It is important to try to overcome those moments by thinking about all of the great moments and opportunities we are given throughout our lives when we think about things in this mindset, life really isn't all that bad. Happiness is a state of mind, and with the right state of mind, you can't help to do anything other than smile.
