Power of the Prayer

"When Jesus says all things are made possible with Him, do you actually believe Him?" -Allie Shirley, CEO and Founder of Marque Modest Apparel, Atlanta, GA

Happy April folks. It's officially a new month which also means spring is in the air. A new beginning and fresh start, as what I usually (try to) go by. Any worries, mistakes, doubts, or whatever you've been going through or had in the past month(s), it's in the past. Look to the future. Typing this sentence away might sound fresh, clear, and easier said than done. In reality, nothing ain't that clear nor easier said than done.

This year, I've been reaching out to God's Word when it comes to getting by each day, week, month, and, matter of fact, year. Specifically, i've been leaning towards the power of the prayer. During my Christian girls camp days, in my middle and high school years, I learned about the different books of the Bible and how His Word reflects upon young girls of then, today, and the future. At that time, I didn't fully understand nor comprehended how His Word would be relevant to my life at all. In all honesty, I was too self-involved that time to even think or care what God had in store for me between the ages of 11 to 16 (but really, who isn't self-involved during those complicated, messy, and confusing years?). Now here I am, standing today as a young woman entering into a stringent, hectic, anxious, and fast-paced society doing the best I can to be with God at all times in my life rather than against.

About two months ago, I bought a small travel-sized paperback New International Version of the Holy Bible from Barnes & Nobles. Since then, I made a pact to spend each morning (or midday sometimes depending on the circumstances) reading a daily Bible scripture of the day through my Bible app. on my phone and jotting down any thoughts I had from that specific scripture. At the end, I write a simple prayer for the day, week, and long run. This prayer can be just as simple as praying for good things to come or needing some strength and courage to get by during tough and hectic times. Now, any prayer, big or small, doesn't happen instantly overnight. In the passage of Ecclesiastes 31: 8, there is a time and place for everything. This includes a set plan God has for us, as well as our prayers. For a better future and, most of all, hope for good things to come, God has our back and listens to us in our times of trouble.

Now, we are all entitled to our own beliefs, ideals, values, and opinions in life. Ain't nothing wrong with that. When those ideals, beliefs, values, and opinions get shoved and forced down one's throat, that's a whole other story. Silver lining, basically. If you have been reading my weekly articles via Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and (sometimes) Twitter, some of you might have noticed I put a Bible quote relating to my daily content. Most of those quotes comes from passages of the Book of Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, and the other fantastic books of the Bible.

Each book of the Bible serves as a remarkable craft of God's Word. Regardless of what goes on in our lives, or where life takes us, He has our back. Most of all, He believes in good things for us to achieve and accomplish. So everyone, regardless of your beliefs, ideals, values, and opinions on life, trust that you can make it through. At the end of the day, all it matters is you against the world and the strength and power you have to this everlasting life. Dream Big and Believe in Good Things to Come.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" Philippians 4:6

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
