Never Underestimate The Power Of A Good Nap

In a world where we are busier and overworked more than ever, we have also become a world that is filled with anxiety and depression more than ever. Sometimes we may even ask ourselves what it is that we're doing wrong to be feeling overwhelmed all of the time, but the simple answer is we really aren't doing anything wrong, but instead, we tend to forget to give ourselves a break every now and then.

A really good solution to help give a little calm in your day is to schedule a nap into your day if at all possible. This especially goes for college students who have what feels like a million different tasks on their plate at one time.

I know there are some days that it is next to impossible to find time for a break and catch up some much-needed sleep, but if time is available, absolutely take advantage of that time for the sake of your mental health. It may seem like a dumb solution, but naps have so many benefits.

The biggest benefit of napping is that it improves overall cognitive function. So, if there is a lot going on at one time, whether it be at work or school, a nap can help one get back on track mentally with whatever needs to be done while also not getting too stressed out over everything.

Napping can also help one perform better overall not only mentally, but of course, physically, providing much-needed energy to conquer the day. If you don't necessarily need help with cognitive function or an increase in energy levels, most of us need a way to relax period, since the majority of the U.S. population is way overworked.

Someone once told me that naps are just for kids, but I beg to differ since adults are typically way more stressed out than a kid could ever be; one could even argue that depending on one's lifestyle, adults probably need naps more than younger individuals.

So, let's start normalizing napping in the adult world. It doesn't have to be every day, but just every so often when you really need to put life on pause for an hour or so.

Again, I know that it may not be possible for some people given their super busy schedule, but if at all possible, give yourself a much-needed break when you can for the sake of your own well-being. And when all seems like it's getting too much, never underestimate the power of a good nap.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
