Helping, caring, and giving back to our community are the very values that I perceive as central to our country. We as a community and citizens of America should help others who may be less fortunate. I walked the Morris County Light The Night for Leukemia. The walk opened my eyes to not taking things for granted. This not only was inspiring for cancer survivors or relatives of cancer patients, but it touched my heart and the rest of the community. This not only gave back to the community but also raised money for the cause. This was my first time ever walking for cancer, I was unable to go last year but I really regret that I didn’t because I had so much fun at this event. These events can be so eye opening and will show you that these people need our support.
This service that I did for Leukemia changed my understanding of what it means to be a good citizen. There were so many people that were at the walk that were relatives of survivors and current patients who were still battling with Leukemia. I did not even imagine how big this cause is and how many people this disease has affected. We as citizens should continue to help aid people who have suffered or are currently in a time of need. This will not only give us a more understanding of what it is to be in their shoes but to also will deeply move the people we meet and help. I was able to learn so much about Leukemia and how much it means to give back to a great cause.
The government should definitely consider providing relief or support for those in most need. Cancer, not only Leukemia but all the other types have affected more than millions of people and should be taken care once and for all. So many people are battling a disease that has no cure so they perceive that they are fighting for something where they know they might lose. During this walk, I saw how hard and how much courage these victims of Leukemia have and it really amazed me. This walk was able to expand my knowledge of what the disease really is and how much more respect I have for people who may have been affected by this. The power and willingness that people fighting with Leukemia have, is so inspiring and empowering.
The Light The Night Walk was not only inspiring but very enjoyable. I was able to join my fellow field hockey players as we walked the walk together. The experience was not only touching but so inspiring, more than I could ever imagine. I would definitely walk next year now that I know how important it is to give back to my community.
