It has been raining a lot lately, which makes walking to and from class a hassle. However, one day stood out to me. It was pouring out so I decided to take the bus. I waited inside until I knew the bus would be arriving soon and headed outside. As I was waiting outside, the girl next to me realized I wasn’t holding an umbrella and said “here come under mine.” I had never met the girl before and surely wasn’t expecting her to offer her umbrella to me. I thanked her and we waited for the bus. It arrived about two minutes later and we parted ways, but her act of kindness stuck with me.
I was thinking about my week and how this girl’s random act of kindness made the rainy day better. We as humans have the ability to change another person’s mood and that is so amazing. We should be striving to make other people’s days better, to perform random acts of kindness, and to overall just be nice. There seems to be so much hate in the world and instead, of mobilizing hate; we should be spreading kindness and love.
After thinking about this experience, I’ve decided I want to try and do a random act of kindness every day. It can be giving someone a compliment, buying a coffee for the person behind me in line, or inviting someone under my umbrella during the pouring rain. An action that is so simple can hold so much power. Let’s use this power for good and just be kind to each other.
