Expelliarmus Puppets

Where the magical world comes to life on the internet.

Expelliarmus Puppets

Possibly one of my favorite childhood memories is sitting on a stack of pillows in a homemade blanket fort with my best friend. The inside of the fort is black, and the computer screen lights up my laughing face. Stories circle in my head of flying brooms, carriage rides with invisible creatures, magical wands, and never ending adventures. My face lights up when I laugh at the funny sayings, interesting plots, and incredibly catchy rhythms.

The Potter Puppet Pals should be a television show on their own. They are famous on YouTubeand have brought joy to children’s and teenager’s lives as they are reading or already have read the beloved Harry Potterseries. This YouTube videos can be found on Neil Cicierega’s channel. Or, a simpler solution, is simply looking up Potter Puppet Pals in the search bar on YouTube. The actors and creators of these videos include Neil Cicierega, Emmy Cicierega, Alora Lanzillotta, and Julie Becker.

Here are some of my favorites:

The Mysterious Ticking Noise

Wizard Swears

Ron’s Disease

The Vortex

Snape’s Diary

The characters in these videos are the usual suspects. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Severus Snape, and Albus Dumbledore. Neville Longbottom and Voldemort also make appearances along with some surprise characters that nobody sees coming. These characters are puppets made of different colored felt, and the clothes are the traditional Hogwarts’ black robes. Albus Dumbledore, of course, wears his bright colored robe and wizard hat. Potter can be clearly seen with his black glasses, Weasley with his red hair and freckles, and Snape with his incredibly pointy nose.

The music is unique. It definitely sounds like it could be part of the wizard world. There’s different songs for each video, but there is that one traditional song. The puppet shows start off like any other show. Red curtains part to reveal a brown stage, blue background, and a picket stand with a poster that states the title of the show. These showings last from thirty seconds to about six minutes depending on the story.

These little acts are highly entertaining. The actors portray the characters incredibly well. They capture Snape’s grumpiness to the T, Hermione’s, Harry’s, and Ron’s mischief and impulsiveness very well, and Dumbledore’s unexpected acts. The voices are high pitched, but that is to be expected from puppets. There are voice variations that do match the ones of the original characters, or at least I believe that. The movements of these characters are limited, but the actors found a way to make them entertaining. They are synced, patterned, and entertaining for the audience.

Overall, the Potter Puppet Pals have been highly successful for several years. They have millions of viewers, and they are fun to watch repeatedly. If possible, look some videos up. I think you will find them quite entertaining. So from one witch to another, or wizard, enter the realm of the magical world and embark on adventures with Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. (Broomstick flies away.)

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
