Recently, I watched my Facebook go in a whirlwind of what people were referring to as "vaguebooking." It all began with a single person bringing up things (things that happened like forever ago, by the way) about other people. It started what seemed like back and forth pettiness for awhile, ultimately ending with people just blocking each other.
All of that Facebook drama taught me that those types of call-out posts do way more harm than good. It paints a target not only on the one who posts it, but also who the post is about. It sparks an ignition that becomes unstoppable in some cases and when you give fuel to that fire, the original poster, it makes it grow.
When you see those types of posts, especially when it is about someone you personally know, your first response is to act on it. Something in you tells you to comment on it, telling why that opinion is wrong.
I'm here to tell you not to do that. Stop feeding them information to use against you. A screenshot lasts forever.
If your words are screenshotted, that just adds to the pile. Now, this person can continue to drag the situation further, continue to pull you further down the hole they have dug themselves. Once you are on their level, you are honestly no better than them.
Be the bigger person and ignore it, and block them if it that will help ease your temptation to comment.
We need to stop with the "vaguebooking" or "subtweeting" or whatever the kids call it these days. Usually, it all just creates this big circle of drama that is extremely hard to escape.
Social media, as well as the internet in general, is such a great way to communicate with others, share opinions, and learn new things, but it also what has changed our interaction with others. Instead of communicating to that person we are having issues with, we post our personal vendettas for the whole world to see. Dragging people into the situation that never were meant to be apart of it to begin with
Once that information is out, its out, and those problems will most likely never be solved. If anything it will just make everything worse. And years from now, those screenshots of your feeble, personal vendetta status, tweet, or post will always be there.
