Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I love coming together with family, making cookies with my boyfriend, nieces, and nephew. I love eating dinner with people that I care about and spending the day with loved ones. Something that has frustrated me, however, is how gift obsessed we have all become. Christmas is no longer just about enjoying time with family, it's about getting what you want.
I was listening to my nieces talk a few weeks ago about their Christmas lists and how they are excited to have about 3 Christmas celebrations this year. I remember being a kid and being super excited to open presents, but then I realized that Christmas isn't about opening presents, it's about being with the ones you love.
Instead of being upset or ungrateful of something you received, take a different look on it. Keep an open mind. Be grateful for what you do have and appreciate the people around you. In time, the loved ones sitting next to you at dinner may not be around for you to spend time with. Take every opportunity you can to thank your friends and family for what they have given you because they don't have to give you anything if they don't want to.
Be grateful, enjoy the time you have, and remember to appreciate those around you.
