10 Stages of Post Spring Break Depression, As Told By Schmidt
Hello Giggles

Now that spring break has come and gone, the real work of the semester begins. Coming back into my first week of classes, school has hit me like a ton of bricks. Midterms, papers and projects have left me wishing that spring break could last forever. I was not at all prepared for the amount of work that I would come back to. If you're like me and still dreaming of laying on the beach during vacation or at home on your couch (or however you spent your break), then this list is absolutely perfect for you.

1. When you realize that you have to go back to school and actually do work.

There's literally nothing worse than the realization that you won't be able to relax 24/7 anymore. Or that you have to get up at a responsible time in the morning once again.

2. And you are not at all ready to go back to actually being a responsible, hardworking member of society.

Two papers due this week? Two midterms on the same day? NO.

3. The realization that you didn't do any of the schoolwork/studying you should have done over break and now you're drowning in work.

I think we can all relate to the night before the first day after break when you discover that there were 35345 assignments you should have been working on.

4. When the first day back smacks you in the face and you're not thriving at all.

When you become so overwhelmed you just want to wrap yourself in a blanket and hide in bed forever. How do you school?

5. Because you spent all day sitting in class but your brain is still on break.

Sitting in class mentally still on vacation...because imagining your sitting on a beach is much better than listening to a sixty minute lecture. Maybe if I close my eyes I'll magically be back on the beach?

6. But then you see your friends and everything is right in the world.

A week apart feels like a lifetime in college. It might as well be when you are used to seeing your friends 24/7.

7. Until you remember that you're even closer to graduating now.

We don't talk about the "G" word. We ignore that it is even coming.

8. And you see all the freshman back on campus.

I feel older every time I see them walking around campus. "Youths! Youths everywhere!"

9. But you somehow make it to the end of the first week back.

There is no better feeling than knowing you survived the first week back after break. The week that feels like it will never end...finally came to an end.

10. And you finally made it to the weekend.

Time to celebrate! In the wise words of Schmidt, "It's on and poppin' up in here!" Time to let loose!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
