On this day, it is hard not to address the fear that will come once Trump is officially in office.
Many people think that others are exaggerating their fears. I wish this was exaggeration. I couldn't imagine being Muslim, Latino, or even African American right now. My heart breaks for the people who have too much fear to express themselves today. There are too many cases of Hijabs not being worn and people fearing that they will not be able to be openly gay anymore without repercussions. I fear for them. I fear for my family. I fear for my friends.
America was never great in the first place, so we really shouldn't be advocating to make it great "again". We have seen many accomplishments, but I wouldn't say that our country is great yet. We are on our way there. Let's not forget that there is still a large pay gap between men and women. Believe it or not, voting only opened up to everyone 50 years ago. Gay marriage was finally legalized just last year. So please, do not claim that we need to make America great again. We need to focus on making it great in the first place.
I will always respect Hillary Clinton. She is a woman of poise and elegance, and even when she lost, she kept her cool. I am almost thankful for the loss because of the unpredictable reaction we may have gotten from her opponent. She is someone that will go down in history and I am proud to say that as a first time voter, she was my choice. She is an inspiration to women around the country and I wholeheartedly believe that this loss is not the end of her political journey.
I didn't vote for Donald Trump, but I am really hoping that we, as Americans, made the right choice putting him into office. The next four years is going to be scary and unpredictable, but life must go on. As Hillary said today in her speech, "To all the little girls watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.".
