So as everybody knows, I graduated from college back in June. I was on the hunt to find a job in the real world. I was bouncing around in the mall working retail. I was miserable. I am 22 and a female. I figured that no one would want to hire me. I had applied to well over 100 jobs and they definitely varied from the style that I was used to working. Recently, I had something HUMONGOUS happen to me. At the end of June, I consulting company had reached out to me, offering me a position in the city. I would be making top dollar and be the boss. Fantastic! Or so I thought.
I weighed the pros and cons of that job. I pondered whether I could handle that type of responsibility. I mean look at me, I am 22, female and a recent college graduate. I probably cannot handle anything this company throws my way. Then another offer came knocking. About a month ago or so, maybe less, I was on SILive.com and started looking for full time work. Well Raymour and Flanigan was hiring. About 2 weeks ago, the recruiter called me and I was offered an interview. Fast forward to my interview last week. I had a 12:30 appointment and I did not leave until 4pm. CRAZY!
Well, I was offered a full time position in the company, with room to grow! I am 22, a female and a recent college graduate with a full time job. I start trying August 1st and August 13th is my first official day! I must say, that is fast and exciting.
While I am excited and nervous for this opportunity, I want everybody to know something. I finally, after working in the mall for four years, found my place in the world. I have a wonderful support system, a boyfriend who is also working straight out of college, an amazing family and soon to be a new family. My work family.
My advice to everybody is who struggling is: NOT TO GIVE UP! There is something out there for you. Network and build connections, look for opportunities you have never thought about. But no matter what, believe in yourself. Something good is coming your way. Do not hold back, take the chance. You may face failures, but success is in your future.
