Whenever I log onto my Twitter, Facebook, and sometimes even Instagram, I am constantly coming across posts that are filled with negativity. Whether it's a Facebook argument over politics, or someone body shaming someone else, it seems to be all I see lately.
It seems that in our generation we pay more attention to the bad than the good. Because most of us are going through college, and living with anxiety and depression disorders, life seems to be pretty hard to handle.
When life gets tough, it is then that we pick up our iPhones or Androids, tap into the Twitter app and create a tweet to express our complaints. We've all done it.
Yes, I know life is hard right now. We can barely afford anything, and many of us still get help from our parents. However, just because our situations aren't currently ideal, we need to remember that every situation is temporary. Luckily, we have the power to predict our futures and create a life for ourselves the way we want to.
I'll admit it myself. There are times when I go on Twitter, and even Facebook, to complain about how much I feel that my life sucks. But then I think about all of the wonderful things I do have.
It's time to start looking at what we do have instead of what we don't have. Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of our lives, we need to focus more on the positive parts and actually start talking about them.
The more we talk about positive things, the happier we will be. I genuinely believe that this generation is so "depressed" and "anxious" because of how much time we spend on social media.
How many of you can go more than ten minutes without seeing something negative on your timeline?
If you raised your hand, I am right there with you raising mine.
So here comes the challenge. Take a minute to think about the positive aspects of your life.
Where are you happiest? Take a picture of that place and post it on Instagram.
When do you feel like your best self? Take a selfie of you feeling good about yourself.
Have a makeup look that could inspire others? Share it on your socials.
Took the time to better yourself? Spread that positivity.
We're only going to become better by doing better. The next time you go on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat, make sure to be mindful when you're posting. You never really understand the kind of effect your posts can have on someone. Let's start taking the time to think about all of the great opportunities life has to offer instead of taking them for granted. We have the opportunity to use social media for the better. Social media continues to have this negative connotation but that can be changed all with the click of a button or a tap on a screen. Remember, it all starts with you.
