My friend and I meant to go to the Timken Museum in Balboa Park. We got to Balboa Park alright, but we were on a hilltop trail a mile away from the museum. Later, we would learn we never had to transfer off that first bus we took from school to another bus going ... the opposite direction.
What a day, am I right?
We also had to get back to school in three hours, not like that was any more pressure. But you know what?
That day was one of my best days since I started college two months ago.
It all began at the bus transit center at our school. There, we took our first bus and after about 20 minutes, transferred to the next bus faithfully following Google Map's instructions. We got off our stop and landed at our destination, Balboa Park. Well, kind of. Turns out, we put in the wrong address in the first place and ended up on the other side of Balboa Park, a whole mile away from the museums. So we put in the exact museum address, and thus our adventure began. In retrospect, we could have gone back to the bus station and taken other buses back, but we kept moving forward.
We ended up walking through a dog park to get to an open trail, leading us up a hill and across a street. Mind you, we were not at all prepared for such exercise. At this point, we could have easily been exclaiming about the struggles of not having a car or blaming public transport, or even blaming ourselves. But instead, we were both laughing at it all. It was ridiculous, it was great. Besides, we were getting a killer view.
Since I brought along my camera but forgot my memory card, I took pictures on my phone. I love nature, I love photos, and forgetting to bring an SD card would not stop me from capturing the moment. Life is what you make of it. Even if there might be a destiny waiting for you, it's all up to the individual choices you make on that road. Honestly, we could have given up on this day and let the mishaps rule the mood. But we made the choice to focus on the present, the great adventure that led us to experience some great views and much-needed exercise. Of course, sometimes emotions take over and finding positivity seems impossible. And with that mindset, it might be.So really, you control your own day. There are going to be so many events out of your own control, but how you perceive each event greatly affects your lasting memories of them. We got to the museum, had a great time walking around, and took the correct bus home.
