What I Want to be When I Grow Up
Hanna Smith

What do I want to be when I grow up? I'm asked this frequently in the form of questions about post-graduation plans and what I hope to do with my major one day. I still have no clue what my career future looks like, as do most college students. Although, in this haze of unknown as I look towards my future there is a glimmer of clarity as I think about who I want to be when I grow up.

I want to be a little bit of my mom. I want to have her spontaneous spirit that is always geared up for an adventure. She is the best at turning a dull outing into a hilarious experience. I also want to have her genuine love for other people. She makes everyone feel like they're the most important person in the room. I want to be like her when I grow up.

I also want to be a little bit of my dad. I want to be a good listener like he is - never judging, always ready to hear people out. I want to have his faithfulness and wisdom, too.

I want to be a little bit of my sister. She is bold and confident. She stands for what's right and won't back down. I want that.

I want to be a little bit of my grandmother. Her ability and willingness to laugh at everything brings joy to all those around her. Yeah, I want to laugh as much as she does.

I want to be a little bit of my best friend whose discernment is uncanny. I want to perceive situations with as much grace and wisdom as she does.

Honestly, the list could go on because there are so many people in my life who I would love to be when I grow up. The truth is, I hope that each of these attributes I see in the people I love most will be the attributes people see in me one day. I hope to be positively affected by those around me while still staying true to myself.

When it's all said and done, I want to have surrounded myself with people who have impacted me for the better.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
