Whether we turn on the TV, open up Facebook, or scroll through Twitter, we are constantly being bombarded by some form of news. Most of the news, too, that seems to dominate airwaves and wifi signals are usually negative in nature: a terrorist attack here, an airstrike there. It seems like more bad things than good are constantly occurring. Negative news can definitely take a toll on our psyche as well. In the midst of all the negativity, it is often hard to find the positive. Here are five positive news stories you may have missed:
1. Louisiana Floods Bring out 'Cajun Navy'
The third week of August brought historic floods to the already tense city of Baton Rogue, Louisiana (before flooding, Baton Rogue had been ground zero of social unrest after an officer killed an unarmed Black man). As Louisiana waited in vain for the world to notice its need, the Cajun Navy, a group formed post Hurricane Katrina, gathered boats, vehicles, and supplies. They set out to save their neighbors by any means necessary; some even diving under the five feet deep water to rescue pets, proving that in the time of crisis, all difference are easily set aside to help thy neighbor.

2. 9 year-old Khloe Thompson helps homeless women in her community
Khloe is a 9-year-old girl with a heart bigger than most adults three times her age. At just nine, she's doing what most politicians refuse to do: help the homeless (specifically homeless women). When Khloe encountered a homeless person on her way to school, instead of being struck with fear or aversion, she sought to find a way to help them. She created Khloe Kares, a charity where she and her grandmother sew bags and fill them with every day hygiene items and food. Khloe's next project is a toy drive for children in group homes, proving its never too early to start making a difference.

3. Carmelo Anthony Makes the Most of Rio
"I discovered that what most people call creepy, scary, and spooky, I call comfy, cozy, and home".
While Ryan Lochte was busy terrorizing Rio without remorse, basketball star and gold medalist Carmelo Anthony was busy giving back to the children of Rio. On his off days, the star would venture down to the favelas, or where the poorest of Rio's inhabitants live (and where Rio authorities warned traveling tourists to stay out of for fear of safety concerns). He signed autographs for the kids and played pick up games.
4. Polish Silver Medalist Sells Medals to Save Child
He may have walked away with the silver at Rio, but Poland's Piotr Malachowski, one of the world's top discus throwers, proved just how golden he really is when he put up his silver medals to help a tiny fan pay for medical treatments. Malachowski auctioned off his silver medal in order to help a three-year-old boy struck with eye cancer pay for his $126,000 treatment. He was moved to help the boy after reading a comment from the child's mother on his facebook page.
