Summer is slowly coming to an end, but that doesn't mean we have to be sad that it's almost over. There are many things to look forward to this semester, including friends, new classes and new campus activities! Here are eight positive things about going back to school!

1. Reconnecting with your friends

One of my favorite things about going back to school is catching up with the friends that you haven't seen all summer. Whether you have a million stories to tell or you just sat around for two months, you are always reminded of why you chose these people to be in your life.

2. Getting back into a routine

Admit it. We all can find something we like about having a schedule. Even if you are not a planner (or don't use one), there is a positive feeling associated with knowing what is happening on any given day.

3. Football

Being from Nebraska, where football is a religion, it is arguably the best thing about the fall semester of school. Everyone files into the stadium, all sporting the same colors, and screams at the top of their lungs for their team. Everyone loves a night out at the field!

4. Independence

For those of us who live at home during the summer and on campus during the school year, it is nice to "live on your own" for a little while. Having independence but still being able to rely on staff and friends at school creates the best of both worlds!

5. Opportunity to improve your future

One of the positives about returning to school that is often overlooked is the opportunity to build a better future. Take the time to gain job experience, join a club or apply for an internship. School doesn't have to feel boring and pointless; set yourself up for success.

6. Making memories

Any time spent with people you care about is a great time to create memories! In college, you live with the people you go to school with. This allows you to spend your off time doing crazy, fun things that you can talk about at reunions many years down the road.

7. Meeting new people

It's the circle of life. Each year, a new set of freshmen come on campus, some of your own classmates leave and new students your age move in. One of the best parts about being in school is making connections with many different kinds of people. Keep your eyes open... you never know whom you may come across!

8. You are one step closer to graduation

The end goal of any education is to graduate. Even though it's still just the start of another school year, each day is one day closer to graduating and starting your life - the way you want to live it!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
