Since the dawn of the industrial revolution and the exponential growth of energy requirements, the world has sought a better solution to our energy needs. In 1954, the world saw the dawn of the nuclear age, creating energy by splitting and harnessing the atom's power. In more recent years wind, hydro, and solar power have seen growth and innovation which increases the power produced by significant amounts.
One of the largest producers of wind power in the world is Portugal. Portugal produced 4,724 Megawatts of wind power, 7.5 percent of the countries total energy consumption. In 2015, that number went up to 22 percent.
According to the ZERO-System Sustainable Land Association and Portuguese Renewable Energy Association's analysis of National Energy Network data, Portugal was powered entirely by renewable energy (Wind, Hydro, Solar) for 107 hours, from May 7th to May 11th. While the power produced with these methods fluctuates based on time of year, weather patterns, and other uncontrollable circumstances, this impressive feat shows that one day, as technology progresses, we will be able to power the world through renewable energy.
