Many reports have been made by different news sources about the events that occurred on Friday, 26th of May 2017. However, it seems that people are still not talking about what happened. Two young women, just 16 years old, were being harassed by an attacker on the MAX train in Portland, Oregon. Jeremy Joseph Christian, 35, was screaming at the girls such things like, “Get out of my country” and “Kill yourselves”. I do not care who you are no adult person should tell a child to kill themselves.
Events quickly escalated and bystanders stepped in to stop Christian. It was then that the attacker fatally stabbed Taliesin Myrddin Meche, 23, and Ricky John Best, 53, as well as wounded 21-year-old Micah David-Cole Fletcher. These three men were victims of a terrorist attack as well as victims of unnoticed heroism. They selflessly stepped in to defend two strangers, who were being victimized for self expression.
My question for the United States is why aren’t we talking about this? How many more times does this have to happen before someone important does something. Look at Ariana Grande. The pop singer has dedicated the last few weeks to seeking out and helping the victims of the attack that directly affected her. However, what would she have done if it was someone else’s concert? Who is helping her? Who donating? Who is looking to actively bring awareness to terrorism?
This event hits close to home for me because I am a native Oregonian. I love Portland and how it is a safe place for so many people to be themselves. This is my active cry for you to talk about this. Talk about the heroes. Don’t tell me they died in vain. Never forget.
Court documents that were obtained by CNN on Tuesday backed the information CNN has on the attack as well as what is reported in this article.
