Does porn have an affiliation to rape? In one of my classes, we debated on whether or not watching porn influences men or women to rape. In my opinion, no. Everyone watches porn, right? At least just once to see what all of the hype was about. In Junior High and High school, all of my friends were guys, so I was around to hear all about their "no no boxes" as one of my friends called it and hear about what they thought about porn. I was there when they became sexually attracted to women and started to explore what was out there. Through all of their exploring, not once did I hear any of them say that they wanted to go out and rape a girl because they watched porn. That's not what porn is. The people in pornos know what's going on, they're not being raped, they're having sex for theirs and other people's enjoyment. On that note, no, I don't believe porn causes people to rape. However, let's rephrase the question a little. Does porn lead to unrealistic expectations?

Okay, porn is created for people's enjoyment and pleasure right? Yeah, so most people start to explore porn when they're around 13 or so, or when they hit puberty. Their body is changing and suddenly they have strange desires and well, we all know because we've all been there. So most people watch porn before they ever have sex, and no, I'm not saying everyone watches porn, but I think it's safe to say that a majority of the US population has. Now porn sex and real sex are two completely different things, so does porn create unrealistic expectations? Yes, I believe it does. I believe porn itemizes women and degrades them. How? Well, when a guy watches porn, he watches it for the big boobs and big butts right? Well first of off, a lot of porn stars have fake boobs and butts, so it's unrealistic to expect every girl you have sex with to look like the porn stars you see on Pornhub or where ever you look up porn. Also, the first time you have sex, you do not know what you're doing. I don't care how much porn you've watched, when it comes to having real sex for the first time, it's awkward, uncomfortable and does not last as long as it does in porn. So yes, porn does create unrealistic expectations.

Alright, now let's look at porn from a girls perspective. It can create unrealistic expectations for girls too. Most guys in porn use enhancers to look "more gifted" than they really are. Any normal guy doesn't usually have a penis that big, so when a guy takes his pants off for the first time to get it on, don't just look at it like "that's it?" For one, that's rude. And two, it's unrealistic to compare every guy to the guys you see in porn. It's not about size, it's about how you use it to your advantage.

No, I don't think porn plays a factor in rape, but I do think it itemizes women and even men and creates unrealistic expectations. The sex and people in porn are not how sex really is. Sex is supposed to be a meaningful bond of love between two people, not a bunch of moaning and screaming. It's not fair to your partner to compare them to the porn star you saw when you watched porn.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
