We all host at least one summertime party. What activities are popular now? I love playing and watching corn hole, it also helps that I don’t completely suck at playing. I’m also all about setting off and watching fireworks and sparklers. They can entertain guests for hours, and occasionally make neighbors unhappy. Remember to invite then to the next get together. If you’re about to host a weekend shin-dig, read on.
Corn Hole
Corn hole has taken summer BBQ’s by storm. Over the last few years, this simple game has found its way into almost everyone’s backyard. If you haven’t yet played corn hole, try it… or at least watch videos of other people killing it. Anyway, if you want a fun game for all ages, corn hole is the one for you. Because it is a team oriented game, more of your guests will get involved each game. Have a players card and have a face-off to see which team is the best.
Finding corn hole is pretty easy, it can cost you upwards of $150 to purchase boards, or stop in at your local home improvement store and build a set yourself! The pro to building your own is that you get to decorate them just the way you want. I bet you even have a friend on social media who makes and sells corn hole boards!
Fireworks
Buy a whole case of sparklers at the beginning of the summer season and use a pack each time you host or attend a barbeque or late night fire. Morning Glory fireworks are fun for all ages, too. Around the Fourth of July, fireworks are easiest to get. Buy enough to last the summer and the fun won’t end until the fireworks do!
I had a family friend that set off fireworks each weekend until the end of summer. It was an easy fun way for us all to get together. It was nothing special, but a fun summer past time.
PSA! Please use caution and always wear shoes while playing with fireworks! No one wants to step on hot firework bits, those fireworks are pretty but they don’t feel pretty to step on!
Ladder Ball
Ladder Ball is rather straight forward. I found this game when searching for fun games for my high school graduation party games. I made my first set at home but ultimately bought a set that is easily assembled. I actually found an awesome set at Michael’s at the end of the season last year. It sure has been used and abused but still in great condition.
Volleyball
I know not everyone has a volleyball net in their backyard but it is something simple to put up or just a line on the grass will work. It all depends on the set of people you plan on entertaining this summer. I am completely fine with the spray painted line in the grass but I also enjoy having a net up, it makes it more interesting. No one needs to actually know how to play and this game gets everyone at your party involved! Who cares if you aren’t spectacular at volleyball, you’re at a summer party to have fun!
There are thousands of summertime, outdoor games to choose from. Let me know what your guests enjoy most this summer! Get out there and have fun!
