2016 promises an exciting mix of Halloween costumes that will reflect a year of iconic characters (how many Harley Quinns, Elevens, or badass female Ghostbusters will be parading the street Monday night?), a highly controversial election (Alec Baldwin surely won't be the only one dressing as Trump this year), and celebrity drama (Would Taylor Swift/Calvin Harris/Tom Hiddleston make a good three person Halloween costume?). Because Halloween tends to showcase the most popular trends and events in any given year, I wondered what Halloween costumes were popular ten years ago. The following is a list of six popular Halloween costumes from 2006 that remind us of what the USA was obsessed with a decade ago.

1. Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights

2006 introduced the world to egocentric Ricky Bobby and he soon became an iconic Halloween costume.

2. Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
