Who is Poppy?
That Poppy

She's Poppy. She's Poppy! She's Poppy. But who, or what, is Poppy? Is she just another pop star? An art project? A commentary on celebrity society? Where did she come from? Why is she here? Many questions have arisen about this YouTube channel. I can offer only some simple details, and encourage you to watch her videos and draw your own opinions.

To begin to answer them, we go to Mars Argo. This was a band featuring a blonde girl (Mars?) and the long haired sultry Titanic Sinclair. The two dated for a while and posted a series of eccentric videos on YouTube with the aim to eventually create an entire channel of content called grocery bag.tv. They released one really nice song and then...that's it. Mars Argo dissappeared. Most of their videos were removed or set to private, only one remaining:"Delete Your Facebook". Then a few months ago, this eerie video of Mars was posted under a new channel. In the video, she holds a gun (real? fake? I don't know) to her head, blood oozing from her mouth, repeating that "everybody wants it all". Perhaps this was a response to Sinclair moving on to the next new thing and leaving her behind for another blonde singer. Either way, it's chilling.

A short time later, That Poppy cropped up with an expansive offer of strange videos, some almost meaningless, some silly, some seemingly a commentary on some issue. She also released a few music videos to catchy but generic sounding pop songs, including "Lowlife" and "Money". And guess who directs all of her videos? Titanic Sinclair. And he describes her videos as “a combination of Andy Warhol's pop accessibility, David Lynch's creepiness, and Tim Burton's zany comedic tone".

If you attempt to research her, there's not much of anything too substantial, just lots of conspiracy theories. She could be a living art piece, a robot, raised by the illuminati, or just a singer who wanted to delve into a weird image to gain attention. Her Twitter and YouTube were created in 2011, but feature no posts until at least 2014. Was is that she planned far in advance or were all previous posts mysteriously deleted?

Take a glimpse and see what you can gather of Poppy.

My telephone defines me. When it is dead, so am I.

What if you could reboot yourself? Everything's perfect. Living on this planet makes sense to me.

I just wish you would stop killing and eating us. You know, it hurts when we die. You just can't hear us scream.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
