I hate listening to the radio. It is not because I don't like music, I love music; it is because they play the same songs over and over again.
There are not too many radio stations in the range of where I live. We have an alt rock station, an '80s station, a country station, and a crap ton of pop stations.
Now pop music used to mean popular music. It was just supposed to be an umbrella term for music that was trending or in style. Now it has become a genre of its own where all the music is starting to sound the same.
I was in the car with my friend the other day and we were listening to the radio. A Taylor Swift song came on and it was fine, I'm not a fan, but it was expected.
Then the next song sounded so similar I thought it was her again. Turns out it was a Selena Gomez song. They sounded so similar in not only their voices, but the music and tone of the songs were the exact same. I could not tell the difference.
I am not even joking 20 minutes later the same Taylor Swift song came on again. Is this really what radio has come to? Overplaying these songs that sound so similar. Give it a rest. I know so many popular songs that could be played, but they just don't fit the "pop" look anymore.
I don't get how people enjoy listening to the radio anymore. How can someone listen to the same songs over and over again. Not to mention a lot of the pop songs nowadays are pretty overrated. I think a lot of them are over-hyped because of the artist. Too many people are blinded by how much they love the artist they can't see a crappy or copied song.
Thank the heavens I have a bluetooth hookup in my car. I don't think I could survive only listening to radio. I would also like to say I in no way am saying every pop song is bad. There are so good ones out there, but a lot of them are played less than the others.
I think the radio world needs someone new to change things up. I want a station where I can hear a little of everything. I place where I can discover new music and not the same song 24/7.
