The Memories EP is a bright and shiny release from Dutch foursome The 004. Production duties come from their longtime producer and collaborator K3Y5HIFT3R, also from the Netherlands. The album sports a definite 90s-inspired musical style but certainly fusing in the sound of now with its tropical house and electronic dance music foundation.
Although just releasing their very first single last year with “Song for Me”, The 004 have been on the scene for quite some time. Listeners can really hear the pop music influence of today with a dance beat underneath it on Memories. They certainly come on strong with a total europop sound mixed with today’s daring EDM but with a definite nineties throwback vibe in their songs.
With its inspired vocals, “Can’t Let You Go” shimmers via an epic club style feel polished off with a nice commercial sheen ready for radio. “Funky Vibes” finds the group showcasing a sultry soulful side by way of some soft and sexy singing combined with tight rapping alongside fierce spoken word vocals. On “A Note (To My Younger Self)," The 004 promote a very optimistic and timeless message of the great growth and ultimate happiness that can ironically come from some of life’s tough trials and tribulations when you come out on the other side in a much better place. Tropical house vibes fantastically rule as the quartet whimsically sings along in harmony on the fun “Summer Of ‘05” jam.
The 004 are certainly making vibrant ‘memories’ through their quality house and pop music goodness with K3Y5HIFT3R. And that’s what it’s all about.
