Aside from a few of us who are very lucky, not all of the college students have a ton of money at our disposal and are able to use said money for whatever we want. The average college student I know tends to be strapped for cash and stressed out. Whether it be because of school work, personal life the aforementioned lack of cash, or maybe an unfortunate combination of all three, we all have those moments when we want to just kick back. But what do we do when self-care can come at a high price? Well, here on some tips on how to take care of yourself without breaking the bank too much.

1. Turn Your Home into a Spa

If someone told me to go to the spa and relax after dealing with a ton of stress I’d probably laugh in their face due to my lack of funds. However, while that may be out of reach, it is still very possible to turn your home into a spa! IMost of the items you need are likely to be lying around your living space and if they aren’t they’ll only cost you a few bucks. Giving yourself a quick facial at home is cheap if it costs you anything at all. There are quite a few different methods you can use as well. You can try the green tea method or the oatmeal facial recipe and give yourself a nice facial. If you’d rather take care of the pesky dark bags under your eyes from the all-nighter you pulled in the library, you can use tea bags (cooled or warm) over your eyes as a way to bring the natural beauty back to your skin and put yourself at ease. So go ahead, slip into something cozy, make yourself a facial and slap some tea bags on your eyes. Get a nice spa music playlist going on Spotify and soon enough, you’ll think you’re in a luxurious spa rather than a cramped apartment or dorm or where it may be that you reside.

2. Take Some Yoga Lessons

One of the greatest gifts to the world is the internet. More specifically videos on the internet. If you find that you need to relieve some tension in your body, some yoga may help. However, like the spa, this has the potential to thin out your funds. So try this: clear out some space in your room or living room, find a youtube video of yoga stretches and follow along! Let those yoga pants finally see you do some yoga! While there are certainly benefits to doing yoga in person with a professional instructor, there are definitely some pros to doing it from your own home. You can move at your own pace, do whatever set of stretches you like and have more space to yourself if you’re alone.

3. A Nice Long Bath

This one's a classic, but still worth a spot on the list. If you’re able, run yourself nice hot bath and light some candles. Spend a few bucks on a bathbomb or two or even make your own! The time you spend making the bath bomb that fits you can be a relaxing activity in and of itself. Once you’ve gathered your materials to make your bath extra luxurious, settle in with your favorite book, band or TV show and let yourself relax. Maybe even combine you bathtime with a facial and/or eye mask from the first tip!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
