Last week, President Donald Trump's younger brother, Robert, died at the age of 71 after he became seriously ill. And the comments flooded. Of course, a lot of people did offer their condolences, including opposing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. But there was also an uproar in negative comments towards Trump after the news broke out about his brother.
On Twitter, the hashtag #wrongtrump was trending on Twitter.
Bishop Talbert Swan tweeted "Dear Grim Reaper, you took the wrong Trump."
David Leavitt tweeted "What did he promise the devil for the Grim Reaper to take the #wrongtrump?"
For days, countless social media accounts expressed a distaste with the fact that Robert was taken instead of Donald Trump. However, there were also a number of accounts that expressed disagreement with the hashtag trend.
Kenidra Woods, a mental health advocate tweeted, "I dislike Trump with my whole heart, and he will never get my vote, but the #wrongtrump hashtag makes me so uncomfortable as a human being with a heart and compassion for life."
So here's my question to those that say Trump is a heinous person and treats others with no respect yet supported the hashtag: aren't you being a hypocrite? It's not possible to say terrible things about Trump when some people are saying terrible things to him and about him.
His brother died, and the compassion and sympathy some of this country showed are nonexistent. Some of you are wishing for another human to die because of political disagreements. Because, at this point, you can't say "well he said this and that about so and so..." You can't. Why? Because you wished him dead!
It's easy to point out the things Trump says and does, but at the end of the day, he is human too. And not once has he ever wished someone dead.
This country has become callous and disgusting, and there needs to be a change. If Obama had a relative die, and someone wished him dead, what would those people be called? Hmm. But it's okay to do that to Trump? It's not. Because Trump is human too, whether you agree with him politically or as a person as a whole.
It's humorous for me to see people point so many terrible things out about Trump, yet it's okay for those people to say they wish he was the one that died. It's ridiculous.
This country cannot let politics get in the way of human decency. And that goes with every single aspect of politics and social life in general. Everyone wants this country to be better and do better, right? I think we all have to look in the mirror tomorrow morning and think, "What can I do to do that?"
Because wishing someone dead is not the way to do it.
