As I've grown and become aware of many things that I would otherwise turn a blind eye to, I've come to realize that no matter who's holding seats in office or the values of those in power, everyone is just programmed to defend their political party and that is perfectly okay. As a citizen of whatever country you're in, you have the right to accept or reject others' views.
We don't have to get along, everyone will probably never get along, but we should learn to respect each other. Odyssey's section dedicated to politics is filled with diverse views from different creators from all over. CNN posts things that stir up commotion every single day. Facebook has become filled with people trying to push their values on others; even resulting in cyberbullying.
It's an epidemic for sure and I've never seen anything like this before. Cyberbullying went from 12-year-old snot-nosed kids spreading rumors about their classmates to 40-year-olds calling teenagers and young adults false prophets, liars, and non-believers (among other things).
The bottom line is, my political views should not be an issue for you because I would never try and force others to believe what I do; my words and beliefs are not gospel, so people (namely those 40-year-olds in the comment section) need to understand that neither are their words or opinions.
The growing numbers of millennials getting bullied and harassed for doing what everyone else is doing, voicing their opinion, is ridiculous. How can we get the confidence to one day run this country the best way we can when we get torn down every way we turn?
Don't judge someone based on their political beliefs because not all republicans and democrats think the same. Not all green party members are "hippies" and "tree huggers." Everyone has something to bring to the table, so look beyond their political values; try getting to know a person.
