Since the creation of the constitution, this country has been established as the land of the free. Granting all citizens their unalienable rights to obtain life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With additional rights for each citizen to also pronounce their beliefs through open speech and practice. Political activism has been the cornerstone of American politics, allowing each individual to play a role in the process of decisions made within government. Since the dawn of pre-revolutionary colonial America, radical ideas has consistently helped shape the politics of this country. Most Americans today believe that political activism alone can shape the current state of government politics, yet that is a misconception. Radical ideas alone are not enough to ensue change. During the era of the revolution, Americans established themselves independent from Britain through a series of political activism followed by political action. It takes two to tango in order to see the mission through.
Colorful picket signs and synchronized chants in front of capitol buildings may draw some local attention from news stations and lower-ranked politicians but will not get to the root of the issue. Not to demean the significance of protests, rallies and forums for they have served great use to establishing civil rights and social justice to a large vast of communities within the United States. However, without the use of political action, such as: petitions, contacting senators/congressmen/representatives, amending bills, ban reliefs, holding local office, and attending jury duty there will be no change made. No call for progression if the activism itself is not validated through direct political action. This kind of participation, as listed, should be the main goal for each political activist. Not to say political activists that don’t do the following aren’t making a difference. It's just a means of validating the cause. The call for action that is chanted throughout the streets should be the same call stamped into action on paper. Without it, the cause would lose its validity. The only way to ensue change is if you start it in the streets and end it in an office. That's the way of American politics and the relationship the people have with government.
