Contrary to popular belief, pole dancing is not just for strippers. Yes, you read that right. It is NOT just for strippers. The only reason why pole dancing is associated with strippers is because society and the media made it that way, therefore, that's what it's mostly known for. Before going on, if you're going to be close-minded about this, I suggest you stop reading now because further content might just upset you due to the fact that it contradicts what pole dancing is commonly known for and that's the beliefs you're going to stick to.
Still here? Okay. Good. Let's move on.
To answer any thoughts on how it's actually a normal activity is the fact that pole is actually for fitness as well. Yes freaking way, you read that right. It's an exercise, a work out, and it's not as easy as it looks. Don't let the YouTube videos fool you. I made that initial mistake when I first started pole but I haven't regretted ever starting pole dance/fitness.
How did this even start? Well, it started with a friend who wanted me to join her in an exotic dance class (that's a story for another day). I bet you right now you're thinking about strippers, just from the word "exotic" alone. It has NOTHING to do with strippers. At. All. Anyway! I figured, why the hell not? I'm bored and I had way too much time on my hands and a lot more energy to burn. I went looking around and I read so many good reviews on Foxy Fitness that I figured to give it a try.
I have no regrets.
Pole dancing is not just standing up and looking sexy and flashing out moves out of no where. It's not all about dancing for some random strangers and taking clothes off of dollar bills or solids. Whatever you've seen in the movies or out in the gentlemen's club or stripper places, just no. Wipe that slate clean. Get your head out of the gutter altogether. Yes, we still have to wear shorts and a sports bra but not for the reasons that it's commonly thought of (yah lil nasties). Leggings can't exactly grip the pole correctly and you'll spend more time sliding off than staying on. But clothes isn't what makes pole awesome. It's the technique and the execution of the moves that puts together the whole thing; the costume adds a lil sparkle to everything else.
Believe it or not, pole dancing, rather, pole fitness, is and of its own as a whole, a workout. I'm not even lying. Certain areas and parts of your body have to work together to be able to hold the pose, hang upside down, hang sideways, or etc. You actually have to move your entire body and be able to coordinate between your hands and legs to make it work. Everything has to work together because if not, the rest will be harder to follow. Trust me, I've tried and I've failed more times than I can count.
The Foxy Instructors, however, make it look so easy and effortless but then again, they've been doing this for a lot longer. They're extremely supportive and always ready to help out. They don't throw you into anything advance. Each individual is different, so they work based on skill level. The ladies are extremely patient and their classes are always fun. They always make sure you're doing it properly and guide you to where each hand and foot placement is suppose to go. Of course, they're always willing to show you how it's done.
Oh, did I mention that it's also a competitive sport? No? You're probably thinking it's not possible or you haven't heard about it at all. Well, it's a thing and Ashley Fox won Silver in the 2017 PSO Northeast Pole Championships. Take a looksee. It's really a competitive sport.
