28 Poké Struggles

For when you just have to catch them all.

I am sure everyone has heard of the app Pokémon go by now. In case you haven't, it is an EXTREMELY addicting game where you catch Pokémon and eventually use them to fight others in gyms. Basically, it's the greatest game ever, but even the best games have their flaws and setbacks. While most of us can agree the game is life changing, here are some of the main struggles my friends and I (and basically whoever else plays) faces through their Poké Hunts.

1. When your egg is on 9.9/10 km, and you feel like that last .1 km is impossible.

2. When there are nothing but Pidgeys, Weedles, and Zubats!

3. Running out of Poké Balls.

4. Seeing something cool in the nearby but not being able to find it.

5. When your ball freezes mid throw.

6. Being right on top of the Poké Stop, but it still says you're too far.

7. Getting an Eevee from a 10k egg.

8. When the game makes your battery die in an hour.

9. When you have 100 Pokeballs but no Great balls.

10. When your friend catches a 450 CP Kakuna and yours is a 10 CP.

11. When you finally catch a 500 CP Eevee right after you evolved your 400 CP one.

12. Only have one egg incubator.

13. Using 30 balls, 3 razz berries on one Pokémon, and it still breaks out.

14. When you finally find the Pokémon you need, and it runs.

15. When 10 CP Weedle has the nerve to break out of your perfect throw.

17. Needing 400 candies to level up your Magikarp.

18. Feeling like Pikachus are so rare they don't exist.

19. Constantly checking your moms speedometer to see if she is going 15 MPH so you can get closer to hatching your eggs.

20. When you get shotgun in the car, and you have to play on two phones at a time.

21. Trying to take down a gym by yourself is nearly impossible.

22. Only having one friend on the same team as you.

23. Having your game open in your house praying something will pop up so you don't need to get up.

24. Making your dog walk with you to the Poké Stops so you don't look weird walking in circles alone.

25. Never having enough Stardust.

26. When you were lucky enough to find a rare Pokémon, but you still need 50 more candies to evolve it.

27. Putting up a lure and still not getting any rare Pokémon.

28. Having to wait 20 hours to collect coins again.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
