Man, 1995 was a great year. Gas was only $1.09. We had great films such as "Pocahontas," "Toy Story" and "Casper." Shortly after, in 1996, the biggest thing to hit the popular culture scene was "Pokémon." Created by Satoshi Tajiri and published by Nintendo, "Pokémon" centers around a fictional world where human trainers go on a quest to seek out creatures known as Pokémon, catch them and then train to battle each other. "Pokémon" celebrated its 20th anniversary this year with a special Super Bowl commercial, but as my own personal way of celebrating this anniversary I've come up with a list of 21 problems that only Pokémon trainers could understand. Enjoy!
21. When other people claim to be fans of the franchise.
20. There are no words for this pain.
19. So maybe you're a little checked out of regular life...
18. Okay, you're a lot checked out of regular life.
17. But people only hate because they actually want to be you.
16. Because everyone knows that Pokémon trainers don't age. Right, Ash?
15. Maybe that's why we can't figure out how to get around a tiny tree.
14. Or irrelevant pedestrians. Seriously, did these guys do anything but give out useless knowledge?
13. The game had some seriously twisted logic.
12. And God forbid if you tried to ride your bike indoors.
11. Don't even try to go into a cave without a serious supply of repel.
10. And the game that created some of your biggest trust issues...
9. ...put you through some of your hardest decisions.
8. Then it dared to test your patience as well.
7. Especially when you ended up with a confused Pokémon in battle.
6. Then this was a struggle in and of itself.
5. And the only problem with making your Pokémon stronger was when they became too strong.
4. The struggle got too real when everything you have is too weak to catch a legendary.
3. When you actually had this conspiracy theory run through your mind quite a few times.
2. This fact is all too real.
1. I guess they just weren't as lucky. Once you're in, there's no getting out.
