Since the release of the ever so popular RPG or role-playing game of "Pokemon" kids always imagined themselves as the trainers in the games. Catching any and all Pokemon (except zubats am I right?) to take on gym leaders and earn their badges, successfully titling themselves as Pokemon Masters! After years of begging and pleading to Nintendo to put fans in the game, "Pokemon GO" is released and within the two weeks it's been out, Nintendo has earned themselves a $9 billion raise in market value! Although Nintendo doesn't directly own Pokemon GO, the company Niantic does, they've already shown to be almost worth $12 billion more in a week! With this game on the rise, and many people confused or just wanting to better knowledge themselves (myself included), why not share tips I've received to those who might not have seen them yet!

1. Evolving Your Eevee

Recently rumors arose claiming your movement pattern determined which eeveelution was to become of your Eevee, but was quickly shown to be untrue. The evolution you get is generated randomly, but a Reddit user shared a way found by The Eevee Brothers that will change that. If you name your Eevee: "Rainer," "Sparky," or "Pyro," before evolving him/her, you should end up with the evolution of choice! Most 'GO' users claimed this trick has worked, while a few say it doesn't. But if you're trying to use this on multiple at one time, you will get a randomly generated evolution.

2. Finding Specific Pokemon Types

Fire: Found at gas stations and during sunny days.

Water: Found around bodies of water, most commonly lakes and while it's raining.

Electric: Found near tranformation stations (electrical power houses), and during thunderstorms.

Ghost: Found most commonly at night.

Grass/Bug/Normal: Found in parks and other greenery.

Normal pokemon are also found in urban areas.

3. Spawning

The green leaves you see popping up isn't a guarantee there's a pokemon in that spot. Leaves have shown to be a common spawn area for pokemon and if you wait long enough one will possibly appear! But don't think it's where a pokemon is hiding and walk that way and stand there for nothing to be there! Use your radar and trust the steps you have to take.

4. The AR Feature

AR or augmented reality while super cool actually makes catching pokemon a bit more dificult and also drains your battery life. Sure it's great when a pokemon pops up in a funny places, but if it's a normal area I'd just keep it off until something funny happens.

5. Saving Your Pokeballs

After you've thrown your pokeballs, you can tap on them before they disspear and it will save them to rethrow later. Also you can keep hold of your pokeball while throwing it and if it misses it'll save for later use! Keep in mind this trick only works about half the time you attempt it, but it does work.

6. Perfect Time To Play

With the popularity of Pokemon GO being so high the servers are always overloaded, and that's usually because everyone is trying to play at the same time. Although it's easier to get on during the afternoon, that is the busiest time so try going on early morning or later in the night!

7. Which Pokemon To Use in Battle

I've noticed a lot of people complaining on social media about gyms now becoming stronger and harder to beat.! This list is the type of pokemon and what is best used to defeat them to help make taking over gyms easier!

*Normal - Fighting
*Fire - Water, Ground, Rock
*Water - Electric, Grass
*Grass - Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug
*Ice - Fire, Fighting, Rock, Steel
*Poison - Flying, Psychic, Fairy
*Ground - Water, Grass, Ice
*Flying - Electric, Ice, Rock
*Psychic - Bug, Ghost
*Bug - Fire, Flying, Rock
*Rock - Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Steel
*Ghost - Ghost
*Dragon - Ice, Dragon, Fairy
*Steel - Fire, Fighting, Ground
*Fairy - Poison, Steel

8. Visit Pokestops

Instead of doing the in-app transaction and buying pokeballs, pokestops will provide those for free! You can also find tons of other goodies around them including eggs that contain harder to catch pokemon, and sometimes even lure models! Once you've hit that pokestop you can always come back a little later and hit it again!

9. Don't Overuse Your Battery

Although you have to have the app open to count steps for eggs and to find pokemon, there's an option to help save your battery's life! Clicking on the center pokeball button and going into settings you can hit the "Battery Saver" switch and put your phone in your pocket. When something appears it'll notify you with a small vibration and once you pull it out of your pocket the screen will light up once more!

10. Hatching Your Eggs

The eggs you receive vary in rareness based off the km count. Ranging from 2km to 10km, the most common pokemon being inside of the 2km eggs, more hard to find in 5km, and the more rare and hard to catch or find in the 10km eggs!

11. Bettering Yourself in Battle

When starting a battle in a gym, swipe left and right to dodge the first few attacks. While the other pokemon is trying to catch-up you can start attacking it. Also while battling watch the little blue bars in the left corner of the screen. Once they fill up you can click on it and unleash a special attack on your opponent. When your screen edges start to flash yellow your opponent is about to attack you and seriously damage you, also make sure to swipe left and right to dodge these.

12. Evolving Your Pokemon Faster

Catch multiple of the same pokemon!!! Keep the one with the higher CP and transfer the rest to the professor. When you catch that pokemon you get three candies of that specific pokemon, and transferring it to the professor gets you one more! I did this with my eevee and got 50 eevee candy in two days, evolving it into vaporeon with leftover to help power it up too!

13. Wait to Power Up Your Pokemon

The need to have a high powered pokemon is strong even I get the urge, but wait to power anything up! You could catch another pokemon with a higher CP without using the candy (so you can keep it for evolution) and use the built up stardust later to power up for gyms!

14. Quickly Find Pokestops While Servers Are Down

Niantic, the company behind the development of Pokemon GO also has another app titled "Ingress," this app has been known to have a similar if not the same map as GO! If you want to plan ahead before playing GO, check the "Ingress" map, portals that appear are pokestops in Pokemon GO!

Have fun playing and like the app says say aware of your surroundings! Stay safe, always have reflectors and lights on you while playing at night/in the dark!

Go Team Valor!!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
