This past week Nintendo Fans have been overwhelmed with feelings of nostalgia and excitement. This is because the next installment of the Pokémon franchise was finally announced officially. What makes this announcement even more thrilling is that these games, developed for the Nintendo Switch, will be the first to ditch the handheld systems and be playable on an actual home console.
The two new games will be called “Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu” and “Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee”. Both games will be remakes of “Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition”, which was released back in 1998. That was over 20 years ago just in case you were wondering. The game will also integrate Pokémon Go, the mobile title that took the world by storm back in 2016. This will be done by a Pokéball peripheral that will allow players to use a flicking motion to capture Pokémon in the game and bond with the Pokémon they catch even when they are not playing their switch. This Pokéball peripheral also serves as a link between your Pokémon go account and the "Pokémon Let's Go" games. The Let’s Go games will even allow player to play alongside their friends, something that fans of the past Pokémon games have been waiting for since the original three were released.
Now, every major game announcement that was ever made was always accompanied by its fair share of doubts. The Pokémon Let’s Go games are no different. A lot of players aren’t necessarily thrilled that the Pokémon Let’s Go games will have such a heavy Pokémon Go influence. This is mainly being drawn from the thought that Player may be able to import the Pokémon they have captured over the past two years in Pokémon Go, making the core "Pokémon Let's Go" gameplay a little easy. It is also unclear whether there will be online battles, which has a lot of Pokéfans worried.
It should also be noted that there is another Pokémon game already on the Switch called Pokémon Quest which is an RPG, treasure collecting game. While it is currently only available on the Switch, it will soon be available on most smart devices.
But wait, there’s more.
To wrap up their big announcement, the creator behind the "Pokémon Let's Go" games announced that there is another Pokémon game in the works and it is set to be released during the second half of 2019.
The Announcement of “Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu” and “Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee” was the announcement Nintendo Switch owners have been waiting for. As it is one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises, the new Pokémon titles will surely take Nintendo Switch sales to the level Nintendo desired. It seems as if they are designed to keep you connected to the game no matter where you are. Considering that these games will be the first to hit a home console and that the Nintendo Switch is one of the most successful consoles ever made, it is easy to assume the launch of “Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu” and “Pokémon: Let's Go Eevee” will be one of the biggest game launches the industry has ever seen.
