This past week was the 20th anniversary of the video game classic, Pokemon. If you’re a Pokemon fan, I’m going to be bringing you down memory lane throughout this article. If you grew up with Pokemon deep in your heart like I did, then you’ll remember the countless hours that were put into each game. But do you know the timeline of the Pokemon game series? If you haven’t felt old yet, you will now.

The first Pokemon game ever, Pokemon Red, and Pokemon Green--also known as Pocket Monsters--was released in Japan on February 27th, 1996 for the Super GameBoy launch.

Pokemon didn’t debut in North America until the Electronic Expo in Los Angeles in May of 1998. North America finally got to get their hands on the first games, named Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, in September of 1998.

After that incredible success, Pokemon Pinball was released for the Game Boy Color in June of 1999. Pokemon Snap was released later that same month for the Nintendo 64. Within that same year, Pokemon Yellow: The Special Pikachu Edition, was released for the GameBoy Color in October.

In February of 2000, Pokemon Stadium is released for the Nintendo 64. Other releases that year were Pokemon Card Trading Game for the GameBoy Color in April, Pokemon Puzzle League for the Nintendo N64 in September, Pokemon Gold and Silver for the GameBoy Color in October, Hey You Pikachu! for the Nintendo 64 in November, and Pokemon Puzzle Challenge for the GameBoy Color in December.

In 2001, Pokemon Stadium 2 was released for the Nintendo 64 in March, and Pokemon Crystal was released for the GameBoy Color in July.

Skip a year and Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were released for the Game Boy Advance in March of 2003. Alongside that, Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire was released for the GameBoy Advance in August. To cap off the year, Pokemon Channel was released in December for the Nintendo Gamecube.

In 2004, Pokemon Colosseum was released for the Nintendo Gamecube in March, with the addition of Pokemon Box for the Nintendo Gamecube in July. Two months later, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen were introduced to the GameBoy Advance.

In 2005, Pokemon Dash was the first Pokemon game on the Nintendo 3DS in March. Skipping back just a little, Pokemon Emerald was released for the GameBoy Advance in May of that same year. Then finally topping off the year with Pokemon XD, Gale of Darkness for the Nintendo Game Cube in October.

Kicking off the ten-year mark, Pokemon Trozei was released for the Nintendo DS in March. This was also the year the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series started with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team and Red Rescue Team being released in September for the Nintendo DS. Then, Pokemon Ranger came out for the Nintendo DS in October.

In 2007, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were released for the Nintendo 3DS in April, and Pokemon Battle Revolution for the Wii in June.

In 2008, two more additions to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series, Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, were released for the Nintendo 3DS in April. My Pokemon Ranch is released for the Wii in June. Ending the year, the Pokemon Rangers series also gets another addition with Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Alma releasing for the Nintendo DS in November.

2009 only gave us three games: Pokemon Platinum being the first one in March for the Nintendo DS, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky for the Nintendo DS in October, and Pokemon Rumble for the Wii in November.

In 2010, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are released for the Nintendo DS in March. Another addition to the Pokemon Ranger series, Guardian Signs, was released for the Nintendo DS in October. And finishing with PokePark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure for the Wii in November.

In 2011, Pokemon Black and Pokemon White were released for the Nintendo DS in March, as well as Pokemon Rumble Blast for the Nintendo 3DS in October.

2012 was the year of sequels! First with PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond for the Wii in February and Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 for the Nintendo DS in October. In between those, Pokemon Conquest is released for the Nintendo DS in June.

In 2013, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon got another addition with Gates to Infinity for the Nintendo 3DS in March. Pokemon Rumble U came out for the Wii U in August. And lastly, Pokemon X and Y were released for the Nintendo 3DS in October.

In 2014, Pokemon Art Academy came out for the Nintendo 3DS in October, and Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were released for the Nintendo 3DS in November.

We only got two games in 2015: Pokemon Rumble World for the Nintendo 3DS in April, and another addition to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Series, Super Mystery Dungeon, in November for the Nintendo 3DS.

Finally, for 2016, Nintendo has treated us with copies of Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, and Pokemon Yellow that can be purchased from the eShop in their original fashion. Another treat to fans for the 20th anniversary is the announcement for Pokemon GO, and Pokemon Sun and Moon for the Nintendo 3DS later in the year.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
