Pokémon Go: The Early Years

The next phase of gaming

As some of you may know, and are probably very excited about, "Pokemon Go" came out last Wednesday, the sixth.

This year is Pokemon's 20th anniversary of the first release of the games. And for this new game, they are taking it both to the next level, and back to the basics.

"Pokemon Go" is an app on smart phones for countries all over the world. So far it is only in Australia and the United States, but it is planned for Canada, Europe, Japan, and other countries soon. It also features the Pokemon from the first generation, the first games.

The game features customizing your character and using your phone's location, camera, and touchscreen. By moving in real life, you can move your in app character, which is how you can find Pokemon and Pokestops which can give you items like Pokeballs and Pokemon eggs.

The game gives you Pokeballs to capture Pokemon, and with each new addition to your team, you gain experience points that levels up your character. By leveling up, you can have access to more, better items and Pokemon.

Another returning feature from the Pokemon games is gym battles. At landmarks such as churches and parks, you might find a Pokemon gym to battle. Your character needs to be at level five before being allowed to challenge a gym.

This game, at least in my mind, was designed to get Pokemon trainers into the real world and to get them communicating with each other. Another in game feature is joining one of three teams once you reach level five. This creates a community, and you and other members of your team can battle against gyms together to take control of them over other teams. However, in order to find Pokemon, gyms, and Pokestops, you need to move around outside or at least in a popular gathering place like a mall.

This is great for the community of gamers who most likely stay inside playing video games, like me. This gives us a reason to go outside and get some actual exercise that doesn't involve just our thumbs. Recently, as I was driving home from the mall, I past the park next to my house. Surrounding the in-game gym was no less than seven players, all with their phones. There was no doubt in my mind that they were playing "Pokemon Go." Throughout the evening and night, the gym changed alliances from the red team to the blue and back again multiple times, all which I could see on my screen.

However, I would like to caution those who are playing "Pokemon Go". Be careful. Don't drive and play. I have been tempted to do so many times, but it isn't safe. This is extra important if you're in a city where it against the law to be on your phone for any reason. If you're walking around and playing, make sure to pay attention to your surroundings, aka don't wander into streets or get lost. Don't go out too late. Pokemon will still be there in the morning. It is also against the law to be in parks after a certain hour depending on the park. Always follow the law. No Pokemon is worth being hurt or arrested over, not even Mew.

Try out this new game if it sounds interesting. I know I am loving it! I hope everyone is having fun and staying safe in their quest to catch 'em all!!

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

You know that all of these things apply to you. You'll just never tell.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
