For those of you who haven’t heard of the new accessory linked to Pokémon Go, this week your phones will probably be buzzing with the news of its release. The accessory is called Pokémon Go Plus and has been a hidden treasure that Pokémon fans have been waiting for. After several rumors and references to it, the accessory has been released this past Friday, September 16.
The device itself is a morph of the google map pin and a PokéBall that can be clipped onto clothing or worn on your wrist much like a watch.
But what does the glorified item do?
It connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and notifies you when you are at a Pokéstop or a Pokémon has appeared, using LED light and vibration. If you’re at a Pokéstop, the device will blink and vibrate alerting you to press the button on it to collect the items. If a Pokémon has appeared, a light will flash to alert you of its presence. Pressing the button allows you to throw a PokéBall and the device will slash and vibrate letting you know if you were successful or not.
So what could possibly be a downside?
First of all, the price. Retailed at $34.99, you'd fork out quite a bit of cash for the free app. And according to Polygon, the only Pokémon that you’ll be able to catch are the ones in your Pokédex. So, no, this device will not help you "catch ‘em all." Another thing this device does not do is act as a pedometer. It does not track your steps that hatch eggs.
For me personally, hatching eggs are the only thing that I have trouble with Pokémon Go. I value my phone battery and don’t walk with the Pokémon Go app open at all times so I rarely hatch eggs unless I’m using my phone and walking a lot, which rarely happens. So I don't plan to purchase this product.Of course, this is only my opinion but feel free to respond and tell me why you are or aren't buying Pokémon Go Plus.
