So early this summer the Game, Pokémon Go dropped on Apps stores in parts of the world, at first it didn’t seem like my kind of game, but soon a friend talked me into getting it and soon I started my journey to become the very best like no one ever was. Now I never grew up watching the show or playing any of the games, so I’m the player that asks people what the different creatures are and what they do. It wasn’t until I arrived back on campus that I really got into the game, it was fun learning to learn what teams my friends were on (TEAM VALOR FOR DAYS!!), however it wasn’t until I really started walking around with a group of three other girls did I really start growing as a friend in a different way then I use to back home.
Now when most people hear about a game played on the floor, their first thought is to laugh and think, "Oh those Millennials, always on their phones not making any friends! Not working out or caring about their health!" Well, I hate to break it to you, my face isn't always stuck on my phone trying to find the Pokemon, if my phone alerts me, I'll check to see if it's something I want, usually a freaking Weedle! But so far this semester I've walked a total of 45kms (about 28 miles for the Americans) and have been sleeping easier at night, eating less unhealthy food and losing weight all because I'm just walking around with other people, talking about life, mental health, LGBT+ issues, funny things in from our classes, and just anything that any normal person who talk about, but we just a diving board to help us really get together and start talking.
Most friendships are started with a diving board, ours was just a little different, most friends use a joke, a compliment, a random thing they have in common like being in the same class or eating the same food, we just happened to use an app to start our friendship, we don't know where our friendship will take us, we don't know if we'll always be friends, but what we do know, it that we almost always have a good time.
